On November 2nd, 2017 professionals who work to assist individuals with disabilities in obtaining meaningful, integrated employment in the county of Philadelphia met at the School District of Philadelphia Headquarters for Experience the Employment Connection.
During the Leadership Session, participants began brainstorming barriers for individuals with disabilities seeking employment. Many of the barriers mentioned were a result of low self-confidence. One participant suggested that some individuals feel they are not capable of employment, while another participant mentioned that some individuals lack faith in their abilities.
After identifying barriers, participants were reminded to connect individuals to services that will increase their self-confidence, and build supports that will encourage them to pursue their dreams. Namely, participants discussed opportunities for parent involvement, as families can serve as primary support systems for students in transition and individuals seeking employment.
The Experience the Employment Connection team is excited to hear future success stories of individuals with disabilities who have found meaningful employment in the state of Pennsylvania.
